Paul started his career in technical communication while still in college. At the time, he thought he was going to be a business major, but wasn’t liking his business classes. He was, however, employed part time as a technical writer for the campus information technology office, and was taking a technical writing class. He enjoyed his job and the class, so he switched to English as a major and graduated with a degree in English and with minors in Editing and Computers in the Humanities.
Since graduation, Paul has worked for several software companies and organizations and has become widely known as an expert in MadCap Software’s Flare help authoring tool. In 2007 he was invited to become a volunteer forum moderator and MVP in the MadCap Flare forums. In 2008 he became a Certified Flare Instructor and in 2009 he became a Certified MadCap Advanced Developer.
As a Flare trainer, Paul has trained Flare users in Seattle, Colorado, North Dakota, West Virginia, Utah, Kentucky, New York, New Jersey, Northern Europe and Saudi Arabia, and has provided consulting services for companies across the United States and Europe. He has presented popular sessions at the MadWorld world-wide users conference, and through a variety of webinars.
In 2009 Paul was appointed as vice president of the Intermountain chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) and served as president of that chapter for two years. He has been a member of the STC for twelve years and has served in a variety of positions at the chapter level, and on the outreach team for the Community Affairs Committee at STC.
Paul works as a senior information developer for Venafi, working with a team of four writers, creating technical content to support the world’s first platform that allows large organizations to discover and manage their keys and certificates.
Paul currently lives with his wife and five children in suburban Salt Lake City, Utah.
